Ideas revolving around body adornment have been present in Ruth’s consciousness throughout her career. Holding strong physical and spiritual ties to Aotearoa (New Zealand) Ruth’s armlet form contains direct reference to her south pacific origin.

PROCESS

To make an armlet Ruth firstly heats a solid block of coloured crystal in the glass studio. Once this is molten she manipulates the glass into a solid ring, estimating the size of a clients upper arm. Once the ring is cool Ruth carves an undulating fluid design using a lathe and diamond cutting wheels. Each armlet is unique, the subtelties of formation inspired by the glass itself.
