Ideas revolving around body adornment have been present in Ruth’s consciousness throughout her career. Holding strong physical and spiritual ties to Aotearoa (New Zealand) Ruth’s disk form contains direct reference to her south pacific origin.

PROCESS

A tube is blown using the hot glass process, at this stage Ruth decides upon the colour, thickness and patterning of the amulet. Once the tube is at room temperature Ruth slices it like sushi to reveal the cross-section. These slices are then carved on a lathe using various grades of diamond wheels. To complete the work Ruth plaites a waxed cotton chord and secures a flame-worked glass toggle for fastening around the neck.
